eSIM Not Working? 12 Fixes That Actually Help (2026)

If your eSIM is not working, the cause is almost always one of three things: data roaming is off for the eSIM line, the wrong line is selected for data, or the profile needs a quick restart to register on the local network. Work through the fixes below in order and most issues clear within a minute or two. If you are still setting up, our install guide covers the basics first.

Start with these quick checks

  1. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. Roaming for a travel eSIM only uses its own allowance, not your home carrier. This is the single most common fix.
  2. Set the eSIM as your data line. In settings, choose the travel eSIM for cellular or mobile data.
  3. Toggle Airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off, to force a fresh network search.
  4. Restart your phone. A reboot lets the eSIM register cleanly on arrival.

If you still have no service

  • Select the network manually. Turn off automatic network selection and pick a supported local carrier from the list.
  • Check you are in a covered country. Open the plan's coverage list to confirm your location is included.
  • Confirm the plan has started. Some plans activate on first network connection; give it a few minutes after landing.
  • Check your data balance. If you are out of data, top up a reloadable plan or buy a new one.

If the eSIM connects but the internet does not load

This usually means the eSIM is connected for the wrong purpose. Make sure it is the selected data line, that data roaming is enabled for it, and that low-data or restricted modes are off. If your provider supplied APN settings, enter them under the eSIM's mobile data options.

If the QR code will not scan or install

Raise the brightness on the screen showing the code, or use the manual entry option with the activation details from your dashboard. Remember each QR code is typically single use; if it was already installed once, contact support rather than rescanning.

Device-specific notes

On iPhone, Apple's eSIM support page lists model quirks. On Android, brand skins place the toggles in slightly different menus; Google's Android eSIM help is a good reference. For background on how eSIM profiles work, see what is an eSIM.

Still stuck?

If none of the above works, your phone may be carrier-locked (see device support) or the plan may not cover your exact location. Reach out via the Simnity contact page with your order number and we can help.

Frequently Asked Questions

My eSIM shows no service after landing, what is wrong?

Usually data roaming is off for the eSIM line, or the wrong line is set for data. Enable roaming for the travel eSIM and select it as the data line, then restart.

Why is my eSIM connected but has no internet?

Confirm the eSIM is your selected data line and that data roaming is on for it. A quick Airplane-mode toggle or restart resolves most cases.

Did my data run out?

Check your remaining balance in your dashboard. If a plan is reloadable you can top up; otherwise buy a fresh plan for your destination.
